Also good for photographing documents with a camera phone.

Posted by Yvonne on 15th Jan 2020

I bought this light to use when "scanning" – i.e. photographing – flat documents and books with my iPhone in a library scenario where the items are flat on a desk and the overhead lighting is… unhelpful. It works very well for this purpose and is simple to use. It is also a very satisfactory light when used as intended: for illuminating selfies and camera-phone portraits. A word of warning, though: the advertised "ring" highlight in the eye might look great for eyes, but if the subject of the photo wears glasses the effect is just weird. The person will either need to remove their glasses or you'll need to adjust the pose and other variables in order to ensure that the light doesn't reflect off the glasses lenses.
